The President Claudia Sheinbaum announced an ambitious patching program for the country's federal highways during its morning conference.
This project, called “bump“, will be in charge of the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, Jesus Antonio Esteva Medina.
“Jesus Esteva, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation, he is going to present the program to us “bump”. It is a program that we had in Mexico City that was to cover potholes. So we bring it nationally.”, Sheinbaum explained..
The federal highway conservation program will have a national scope, encompassing the 32 federal entities. As detailed by Secretary Esteva, will be invested 4 billion pesos to achieve a goal of 44 one thousand 600 kilometers of roads served.
“The southeast will be supported by the Secretary of Defense in all areas where the roads were affected by the construction process of the Maya Trends“, Esteva added..
The conservation plan includes various maintenance activities.
“Here we see what routine conservation is, which is basically a bump, releveling, weeding and also cleaning ditches for drainage works. This is important in preventive processes so that additional damage is not generated in the lower layers.”, explained the Secretary.
To carry out this project, have been designed 134 simultaneous work fronts. The execution period will extend from November 2024 to February 2025, generating approximately 8 one thousand 500 jobs.
Additionally, The program includes more exhaustive periodic conservation.
“They are a little more than 600 km, almost 700 km of length. These are sections where the milling and laying of the asphalt layer is done.. we will have 28 simultaneous work fronts and these works begin in December and will be concluded in April 2025”, Esteva explained..
This phase of the project will generate other 2 one thousand 750 jobs.
President Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of this program, pointing out that, according to INEGI surveys, Potholes are considered the problem that most affects citizens.
“Of course there is a part that corresponds to the municipalities, another corresponds to the states of the Republic. What corresponds mainly to the Government of Mexico, to the federal government, They are federal highways”, clarified.
Sheinbaum also mentioned that the program is already underway.
“The tenders have already gone out and, fortunately, President López Obrador left us very healthy finances. He left us this savings, among others in government, and then we decided to use these 4 one billion for this pothole program to cover potholes on federal highways”.
The president concluded by announcing that, in addition to the bump, an additional improvement of federal highways will be carried out that will begin in December.
