The heavy machines of the future built with LEGO

Can you imagine an exhibition of heavy machinery created with Legos cigars?

Well that happened in London last 16 of May, Through a series of visionary LEGO models designed by fans of all ages, the exclusive FutuRE exhibition:BUILD,
which opened at the London Transport Museum, reveals the imaginative power of machine technology.  What will the construction machines of the future look like? And how will they perform? Here's what Volvo Construction Equipment and LEGO Technic showed at the Transport Museum, in the very heart of Covent Garden, of 10 al 16 of May.

Highlighting the technical ingenuity of budding engineers, young and old, the proposals have been reduced to ten models, chosen by a panel of judges. Together they show a wide spectrum of technologies, including controllerless automation, 3D printing, solar panels and drones. Inspired by the futuristic vision behind the LEGO Technic Volvo Concept ZEUX wheel loader, Participants were asked to build their own models using at least the 50 % of existing LEGO Technic bricks. Once the wheels started, the public imagination took flight.

«We are overwhelmed by how far people have come with their creations. The best in the exhibition were chosen because they prove that the limits of our future construction machines are seemingly limitless. Some of these designs look like they came straight out of a sci-fi movie. We are in an exciting time for the industry and these models are actually not too far from what could be coming to our construction environments of the future. ", said Arvid Rinaldo, Head of Brand Communication at Volvo.

The winner of the grand prize has been Vida András, native of Transylvania of 27 years. This Romanian architect focused on finding an environmental solution for construction machines and presenting it in the most elegant way. Its self-propelled model, the Volvo Rottweiler, is equipped with a pneumatic drill, a bulldozer and a 3D printer, allowing you to tackle any construction challenge autonomously in the most difficult to reach places.

"For me, design is not just about playing with the possibilities, but to really explore the potential of the technologies of the future. In my sector, 3D printing is one of the biggest trends of the moment, so I wanted to incorporate it into my model. I have 20 years of experience playing LEGO games. I've always loved it and have always had the confidence that I could sit back and build for hours knowing that in the end it would all come together. ", if declared András.
