📰T-MEC railway: range of possibilities for international trade

The possibility of a rail connection for the North American industrial corridor is latent, which opens a panorama of uninterrupted commercial flow for all companies.

The economic rebound of the US economy in late 2020 and the increase in external demand has benefited the export plant of our country. At the close of 2020, both exports and imports reached levels above the pre-pandemic period, in addition to having a favorable perspective for 2021.

This movement favors large companies that provide services related to international trade, as Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM), advance their consolidation strategies.

And it is that recently the intention was announced to make a combination between Kansas City Southern and Canadian National Railway. This is the continent's largest transaction between rail operators since 1999 and the joint network would extend from Canada to Mexico. How does this possible consolidation influence cross-border trade under the T-MEC?

"We would be talking about the conformation of the T-MEC railway, North American Railroad. Merchandise would run on the same rail line throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada ", explained Oscar Del Cueto. To have this possibility, added, the borders of these three countries are opened, favoring the flow of merchandise. In the next few days, the approval response of the United States Surface Transportation Board could be known. (STB, for its acronym in English).
